Audi 2013 RS4 Avant, details and specs

Audi has finally gotten around to serving up details on the company's 2013 RS4 Avant. The new 2013 RS4 Avant is the third generation of the high-performance wagon that was first introduced 12 years ago. The Audi RS4 Avant uses the same high-revving, normally aspirated V8 engine that powers the RS5 Coupe.   It's powered by a 4.2L V8 with 450 horsepower and 317 lb-ft. of torque.  The engine produces 331 kW (450 hp) at 8.250 rpm for a specific output of 108.1 hp per liter.

The V8 is mated to a seven speed automatic transmission and the quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system. The car can sprint to 60 mph in a mere 4.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 174 mph.  The heart of the quattro all-wheel drive system is a crown-gear center differential which can vary the distribution of power between the front and rear axles immediately, smoothly and over a wide range, with up to 70 % flowing to the front or as much as 85 % to the rear. The Audi Engineers have graced the RS4 Avant with new wave-design disc brakes.

The Audi RS4 Avant is 0.79 inches longer and 0.94 inches wider than the regular A4 Avant. It gets other modifications like a sport suspension with a .79-in lower ride height. The new electromechanical power steering is highly efficient and provides excellent road feedback. The wheels measure 19 inches in diameter in standard trim with 265/35 tires. Six-piston brake calipers are also used at the front. The RS 4 will arrive at dealerships this fall, with prices in Germany starting at €76,600.
